Digital Download Guide
What is a digital download?
A digital download also known as a printable, is a file version of the design and not a physical product. It is usually a PDF, JPG or PNG file. Digital printables mean you can print out in the comfort of your own home, at your own convenience and as many times as you like.
This new way of creating artwork offers many advantages including affordability and accessibility. You can create interchangeable, stunning gallery walls without it costing the earth!
How do I receive my digital downloads?
After purchase, you will receive a secure link where you can access your files at any time. Just download, print and enjoy! As our artworks come in multiple sizes, you will receive a compressed zip file.
What is a zip file?
For those of you that are not familiar with a zip file, then let me break it down for you. A zip file is a common format that's used to compress one or more files together into a single location. This can reduce the file size upto 50% which makes it a lot easier to transport and store. ZIP files work in the same way as a standard folder on your computer.
How do I open a zip file?
Once you have downloaded the zip file, you will need to double click on the folder to open. Once opened, the files inside the folder will be displayed. Click on ‘extract all’ which is located above the files. A pop up will appear asking you where you would like to save your files. Choose a destination and then click ‘extract’. Your files will now be available to view on your computer.
What file sizes will I receive?
Our printables come in 3 file sizes (aspect ratio). These 3 file ratios, then allows you to print on multiple different sizes. Simply put, a file ratio describes the width of an image in relation to its height. Choosing the right aspect ratio not only avoids any distortion of an image when printing but also avoids the need to crop the print when framing.
The file sizes you will receive are:
24x36 inches, 18x24 inches & 8x10 inches.
These files allows you to print on any of the sizes corresponding below
24x36" (2:3 Ratio):
24x36, 20x30, 16x24, 12x18, 10x15, 8x12, 6x9, 4x6.
18x24" (3:4 Ratio):
18x24, 15x20, 12x16, 9x12, 6x8
8x10" (4:5 Ratio):
8x10, 4x5
All our printables have a 300dpi (dots per inch) for the highest quality images. The more dots, the better the quality.
We like to make the most of our artworks so if we feel that a design will fit better on a different print size, then this will be included instead. If this is the case, it will be stated in the product description so please read carefully.
What paper should I use to print my artwork?
The printable final quality will depend on the printers used and the paper/card stock you chose to use. We recommend using no less than 170/200gsm paper/ cardstock. Gsm stands for ‘grams per square metre’ and, the heavier the paper, the better the quality. We also recommend using a matte finish instead of a gloss finish. This can be more flattering for a print and reduces the risk of glare.
Please be aware that colours may differ slightly from what you see on screen, depending on what printing service is used.
Where should I print my artwork?
For a more professional look, you can choose to have your digital download printed at a local print shop. There are many print shop providers that can help you with this, and with a quick google search, I'm sure there will be plenty of options.
This is particularly useful if you wanted to print your artwork on a larger sized paper. You can also upload files to an online printing service and have them delivered straight to your door. Be sure to select the correct file size and high-quality paper if you choose to do this option.
